Good value if you need this text
The book is surprisingly well made for the price. Sturdy, well bound, great color and print quality. I had to have it for an annoying required course so I didn’t focus much on content but there seemed to be good standardized info. Nothing out of the box. It also didn’t address at all some great exercises for basic physical therapy.

Great book
This book is great. It gives a lot of information on fitness and how to be healthier. It also comes with a nice calculation sheets and suggested work outs.

A great read on physical fitness
I highly recommend this book. The information is based on the latest scientific research instead of some fad. The only exercise book many of us will ever need (until the next edition.)

Repetitive, but useful health information
This book uses data from studies to paint an an overall picture of the ways health changes over life and how we can improve it with things like diet choices and exercise. I feel that this would be a useful book for a health class but maybe not as much otherwise. The information is definitely geared towards more health vulnerable populations such as the elderly, overweight, diabetics, etc. It provides useful info about how diet and exercise exactly affect our health, but it repeats the same info a lot throughout the book for each different age/health group. For people looking to learn new fitness regimens or dive deep into health and fitness I feel there are other more specialized books. However, for a health class this is a great strating point with a lot of great, data backend information.

According to this book: We should do leg curls and leg extensions at every session; we don’t need ANY kind of deadlift or heavy posterior chain work (leg curls and extensions are apparently all we need); we don’t need any barbell bench press, overhead press or squat; we don’t need any loaded carries; we need ten exercises at every workout (no more, no less). It’s essentially a rehash of the ACSM’s other books, including Resources for Personal Trainers. The cardio guidelines are totally generic too. Look elsewhere.

The book to buy when you need real information about health and fitness and you’re tired if guessing at the accuracy of the articles and posts you found online.
