The bestselling fitness and self-improvement book for breaking through mental resistance and barriers, building unshakeable discipline, and keeping your goals alive when things get tough.
Fitness isn’t everything. But everything is harder if you aren’t fit.
Because the muscle and strength that you gain from working out is less important than the person you become by working out:
● You become a person who understands that growing into the best version of themselves necessarily includes getting into great shape.
● You become a person who never underestimates the power of simply believing in themselves and always looks for reasons to bet on their hand.
● You become a person who realizes they can achieve far more than they thought they were capable of.
And that’s why I wrote this positive lifestyle habits book:
To help you become that person by sharing insights from scientific research, compelling stories, and practical strategies for staying motivated when setbacks, failure, and self-doubt makes you want to give up.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll find inside this motivation book:
● The “What, When, Where, If, Then” formula that will rewire your thinking for more consistency inside and outside of the gym.
● Three simple questions that will reveal your true “why” for fitness and unlock a wellspring of motivation that will keep you going even when it’s hard.
● How to stop sabotaging your progress with complaining and negativity and develop a solution-oriented mindset that empowers you to take action.
● Warren Buffett’s “2 List Strategy” for prioritizing your goals, eliminating distractions, and achieving laser focus and maximum productivity.
● How to use “productive pessimism” to avoid what scientists call the positivity paradox and cultivate a balanced mindset that will turn self-doubt into self-belief.
● And more
The bottom line is getting fit is like doing anything that most people fail at.
It’s harder than you think it’ll be. It’ll take longer than you think it’ll take. You’ll make way more mistakes than you want to make.
But there’s also this:
You can’t fail unless you give up.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed in your fitness; struggling with laziness, procrastination, or self-doubt; or trying to reignite your passion for working out …
… and if you want strategies for developing a resilient mindset that will empower you to stick with your fitness for the long haul …
… then you want to read this self discipline book for women and men today.

Easy reading with simple take aways- great for everyone- working out and in general life
Actionable and simple steps at the end of every chapter- much more than a work out book- you could remove “workout” from the title and the concepts apply to everyone. There were a few slow chapters that I didn’t find all that personally beneficial in the middle, but quick review. The last chapter was worth the price of the book alone- I’ve re-read the last chapter and had friends and family read it- it is excellent.

Great book for the âI was gonna, butâ¦.â People
Helps me get my head âin the gameâ when itâs been on the couch way too long.I still use the âCouch to 10Kâ app (not related) but this book reminds me how a winner solves issues in their journey. Great little helper. Thanks Mike!!

Beyond Motivation A Book to Build A Better Life
I really recommend this book to anyone who is serious about building a better self, over years I have searched for meaning in my life, through spirituality, self-help, and motivational videos. Something was missing, the kickstart to do something to live a better life. Iâve already read Bigger Leaner Stronger; Iâm an assiduous reader of Muscle for Life/Legion Athletics articles, I listen every day Mikeâs podcast (when it isnât something new I play old episodes!)Through Mike, I discover books like Principles (Ray Dalio), very interesting life stories like J. D. Rockefeller, Nicola Tesla, Michael Angelo and best of all Alexander the Great. I also get to know weightlifting authority M. Rippetoe (Starting Strength) and Strauss Zelnick among many others. For this new book, in particular, I bought the physical copy, kindle and audible, planning to have a copy anytime I need it. Something I enjoy is that Mike read his own book and I feel Iâm reading altogether with a training partner.I just turn 40 and I realize that I need to start building a better future. All the insights I found in Mike’s book were eye-opening to me. I never found a method or even a guide with serious bases to start building and kick me into action, everything was a wishful list of philosophical enunciates. In the LBBWM I found what I think I need it, I struggle every day to achieve my dreams, sometimes blindfolded without a plan. Now I have something to use as a personal guide, to build a better me, at home, at work, at the gym, at life. Give it a try, I’m certain you wouldn’t regret.Iâm building my own home gym, so Iâm done with reading for now and start lifting some weights. Iâm planning to take the MFL coaching service to clear some doubts about training and dieting, I think itâs going to be a great help. With a great surprise, I found a special gift at the end of the book, Iâm not going to spoil the surprise, but I really like it and Iâm working on that now.Well done Mike! Thank you for helping us to achieve our better self! 🙂

Not what I expected
I gave it three stars because I suppose it had some helpful information in it. I expected a book to help me workout. I got a self help book.In the book you described the greatness of people and how they did amazing things. Tom Brady probably the best quarterback ever but he made it because he worked hard. I agree but he also made it because he was in the right place at the right time. I don’t want to know how the super succesful lucky to be in the right place at the right time people made it? How about the other 2000 quarter back want to bees who didn’t get that break and had every bit as much or more talent than him, now they are high school PE teachers and still succesful in their own way everyone can’t be great or great wouldn’t mean much. It would be like Christmas every day. I Want to know how an incredibly average guy can keep going every day. Someone who fights for everything he has including keeping his shotty body in great shape. Then you go on about the Navy Seal once again an elite but with that said are you promoting hurting yourself really I mean if I have to run untill my kidneys stop functioning and my feet break to survive I will find a way but to do it just to finish a race is ludacris. I have spent better than 37 years in the military and respect the elite Specialists like Rangers ad Seals but once again they are only .1 percent of the picture. If I go out and hurt myself to prove a point then the Rangers and Seals can’t get anywhere because I wasn’t there to fix their airplanes and I can’t do that if the person in finance doesn’t pay for the jet fuel or the person in sevices doesn’t make and supply us with food and so on.Sorry I went on a rant but I really was looking for a book to help me workout. I read and followed bigger stronger leaner bought the 1 year challenge have turned several people on to it and love it. I thought this was going to be in the same category. It was not.I use Legion protein greens and pre workout and love them also turned many people onto them. You said you wanted honest reviews and I debated on reviewing this at all but if you wanted my honest review I respected your other work well enough to give it to you..Thanks Gary

Really enjoyed this book by Mike Matthews. As someone who has followed him on social media and listened to his podcast, I was excited to read one of his books â and it did not disappoint. Great insights, references, and more, for both fitness and life.

This is an amazing book. The title doesnât do it justice, nowhere near. You think itâs going to be a list of motivational tips and positive affirmations, but it is actually an entire philosophy.I was impressed with how well the book is written (good English, often funny, always very readable) and for some reason I wasnât expecting that from a fitness fanatic! But it really is well put together and very easy to read and understand. The âRecommended Readingâ suggestions at the end of each chapter mean you could pursue this subject (and related ones) for years!I was fascinated by the comparisons drawn between different areas of normal life and fitness goals. I believe Mr Matthews really understands the difficulties many people have in losing weight and getting fitter and healthier. He doesnât assume you have unlimited time or money. This is a philosophy, as I said, but itâs a practical one, a handbook for success and fulfilment. The book addresses your mindset, your ability to set and achieve goals, the way you could and should look at your aims, values and environment, the way you approach and think about these values – and how to handle failure.Mr Matthews is very clear in his advice and guidance. If you follow it, you will succeed. Simple as that. If you want to lose weight, build muscle, get fit, look fit, be healthy, you can. This advice works. If you have any interest in improving your health, fitness or general lifestyle, you should read this book. Donât be fooled by the title!

Das Buch “The Little Black Book of Workout Motivation” ist wirklich fantastisch.

A very good book summarizing many resources dealing with motivation, willpower, plan for action in a non-bullshit way. Michael writes straight to the point regarding fitness journey and doesn’t just rely on a unique method but on the best techniques. This book will both help with workout motivation and save you a lot of time reading all the resource materials and references that he stand upon.
